The Embassy of Nepal in cooperation of Thammasat University (TU), School of Global Studies (SGS) organized a talk program on the theme “Nepal-Thailand Relations: Prospects and Cooperation” to mark the 60th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Thailand at the University Hall in Bangkok on 29 November 2019. Speakers in the programme were Dr. Kammal Kumar Pawa, Associate Professor and Vice Rector of the Thammasat University, H. E. Mrs. Pornpimol Kanchanalak, Adviser to the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, Venerable Dr. Anil Shakya, Rector of the World Buddhist University and H.E. Mr. Ganesh Prasad Dhakal, Ambassador of Nepal to the Kingdom of Thailand.
While delivering the welcome speech, Vice Rector of the Thammasat University Dr. Pawa expressed his pleasure to host the program at the University and thanked the Embassy for choosing the University to organize such an important event.
H.E. Mrs. Kanchanalak delivered her keynote speech. She highlighted the important aspects of bilateral relations between Thailand and Nepal especially the cultural and religious affinity that binds peoples of both the countries. Mrs. Kanchanalak stressed on the need to further consolidate the bilateral relations at the peoples’ level and enhance cooperation in the areas of trade, investment, tourism and culture.
Venerable Dr. Anil Shakya highlighted the strong bond of friendship between Nepal and Thailand since time immemorial. He said that the cultural and religious link is itself a testimony of excellent bilateral relations between the two countries. He also shed light on the philosophical aspects of humanity.
In his closing remarks, Ambassador Mr. Dhakal spoke about various aspects of bilateral relations between Nepal and Thailand. He said that bilateral relations between the two countries have grown steadily ever since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1959. Ambassador Mr. Dhakal shared that the operationalization of new Gautam Buddha International Airport would further open the avenues of tremendous prospects of religious and cultural tourism between the two counties. He also underscored the need to enhance the cooperation between the two countries in the fields of investment and technology transfer, agriculture, tourism and culture.
University professors, academics, Nepali professionals and students attended the program.
