Tourism Promotion Program in Vientiane, Lao PDR
The Embassy of Nepal, Bangkok organized a tourism promotion program in Vientiane, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, on 30 June 2017 with the slogan of ‘Nepal is beautiful: visit, and enjoy in Nepal’. H.E. Mr. Ounethouang Khaophanh, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism of Lao PDR attended the program as the Chief Guest. He was accompanied by Mr. Bounma Phetsavong, Director General and Mrs. Phonemaly Inthaphome, Deputy Director General from the same Ministry. Besides, representatives from outbound travel and tour operators, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Laos, journalists from Vientiane Times, and representatives from the Nepali community were present in the program.
Mr. Janga Bahadur Gurung, Counsellor/Deputy Chief of Mission, warmly welcomed all the guests to the program. During his welcome remarks, he briefly touched upon the bilateral relations between Nepal and Lao PDR and mentioned the comonalities between the two countries. He. highlighted the potentials and opportunities of tourism sectors in Nepal and urged all the media persons to disseminate information about the tourism attractions of Nepal, especially about Lumbini, the birth place of Lord Buddha. He also urged all the participants to think to visit Lumbini at least once in their life time and also to inform all their friends and relatives about Lumbini and encourage them to visit the place.
Mr. Gurung then made a detailed and comprehensive power-point presentation about the tourism attractions of Nepal. The power-point presentation was focused on the tourism destinations in Nepal, tourism activities to be done in Nepal, world heritage sites in Nepal, various kinds of adventurous tourism, information about visa procedures etc. Many attractive pictures were also included in the power-point presentation to show the natural beauty and adventurous tourism activities of Nepal.
A video presentation about Lumbini was also made during the program. Tourism promotion materials such as framed photos of Maya Devi Temple, CD/DVD and brochures on major tourism attraction of Nepal were distributed to all the guests.
Tour operators were very excited to attend this programme and were found interested to arrange tour packages to send Laotian tourists to Nepal. They were provided with contact details of tour operators in Bangkok who could coordinate tour packages.
The program is expected to have further contributed to disseminating the information about tourism attractions and activities in Nepal and promoting tourism of Nepal among Laotian people.
