Celebration of Nepal’s Republic Day and Everest Day in Bangkok
The Embassy of Nepal, Bangkok celebrated Nepal’s Republic Day and Everest Day in Bangkok with various programmes. The celebration of the Republic Day commenced with Deepawali from 28 to 30 May, and hoisting of Nepal’s national flag in the Embassy premises by H. E. Ambassador Dr. Khaga Nath Adhikari in the morning of 29 May. Embassy family and other Nepali nationals were present during the flag-hoisting ceremony.
Similarly, the Embassy hosted a Reception on 30 May to celebrate Nepal’s Republic Day and ‘Everest Day’ 2018. Welcoming all the guests, H.E. Dr. Khaga Nath Adhikari, Ambassador of Nepal, extended greetings and best wishes to all Nepali nationals on the occasion of the Republic Day. He also spoke about the history of Mount Everest, its climbers and the many records set on Everest. He also mentioned the garbage management problem as well as other problems we are facing due to climate change and resulting global warming.
Two brief video presentations were made about the climbing of Mt. Everest by two Thai nationals: Mr. Vitidnan Rojanapanich (the first Thai climber of Everest, who reached the top of Everest on 22 May 2008), and Dr. Napassaporn Chumnarnsit (the first Thai woman to climb Everest on 19 May 2016). H.E. the Ambassador also honoured the two Thai climbers of Everest with scarfs and certificates of felicitations. They shared their adventurously thrilling experiences of their Mt. Everest expedition more interactively with the participants. So far, three Thai nationals have reached the top of Mt. Everest. Another summiteer is Dr. Arkhom Kijwanichprasert, who reached the top of Everest on 21 May 2011.
Two slide-shows were presented throughout the programme prepared by the Embassy, which included a list of first Mt. Everest summiteers from various countries in the world, and beautiful pictures of himalays, mountains and other touristic destinations in Nepal.
Representatives from Thai Mountaineering and Trekking Club also made presentations for promoting mountaineering and trekking in Nepal.
More than 150 invitees attended the programme. The participants included Ambassadors and other representatives from the diplomatic community in Bangkok, Royal Thai Government officials, travel/tour operators, representatives from Non-Resident Nepali Association and Thai Nepali Association, and Nepalis residing in Thailand.
The programme was very useful in promoting mountaineering, trekking and tourism in Nepal
