Nepal participates in the 77th Session of the UNESCAP
Hon. Prof. Dr. Puspa Raj Kadel, Vice-Chairman, National Planning Commission (NPC) led the 6-member Nepali delegation to the 77th Session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) being held on 26-29 April 2021 in a hybrid modality in Bangkok. Other members of the delegation include the Secretary at the National Planning Commission, Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UNESCAP, and senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Planning Commission. The theme of the Session is “Building back better from crises through regional cooperation in Asia and the Pacific”.
Delivering his statement, Hon. Vice-Chair highlighted the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the economy of the country. He said trade, tourism and transport are the hardest hit sectors. The Vice Chairman also said the pandemic might hinder the aspiration of graduating from the Least Developed Country.
The Vice Chairman highlighted the various measures undertaken by the Government of Nepal to contain the spread of COVID-19. The Vice Chairman also said the Government of Nepal has continued its focus on protecting people’s lives, strengthening the health care system, and building a sustainable and resilient recovery of the economy.
The Vice Chairman underscored that as the entire humanity is in crisis, it needs collaborative action as one world. For that, he emphasized to avert vaccine nationalism and make vaccines a truly global public good that is affordable and accessible to all.
